Winterizing Tips for Your Home


So you've pulled out the winter coats and found your mittens....but is your house prepared for the cold? You'll be a lot more comfortable in the coming months if you consider your house as well.

With winter and the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year to think about winterizing your home. The following are a few of the things you should be considering to make your home both safe and energy efficient.
  1. Repair window and door seals and sweeps
  2. Caulk around windows, doors and vents
  3. Change furnace filter and vacuum out the furnace
  4. Clean and check gutters
  5. Clean out fireplace chimney and flue
  6. Check chimney screen to keep out animals and leaves
  7. Check smoke detectors
  8. Disconnect hoses from outside faucets
  9. Do NOT apply salt or chemicals to concrete (it will cause pitting and scalling)
