2011 Outlook: Light at the End of the Tunnel

The economic forecast is looking brighter as we come out of hibernation from a long and cold winter. Many are predicting a much better 2011 for both the economy and housing industry which is a great sign looking forward. Recent headlines and articles from national trade magazines are showing increasing signs of improvement in our industry.

Professional Remodeler magazine was the latest to point out some of the positive signs in the recent February issue. Here are a few notable statistics:

• Remodeling activity increased in 2010 showing gains for the 14^th straight month.


• Residential remodeling grew 18% between Dec. 2009 and Dec. 2010.


• Housing starts are up 14% in January of 2011


• Existing home sales continue upward trend. Home sales rise for the 5^th time in 6 months.

Remodeling and home improvement projects are seeing the most activity and biggest gains in the number of projects. The ice has melted, the sun is warm and the days are getting longer. We are preparing for a great summer and seeing positive signs for a great 2011.
