Mission St. Louis :: Transforming Our City

http://www.missionstl.org
Recently you may have noticed some of our posts on Facebook about donations we make to Mission: St. Louis, so we'd like to take this opportunity to let you know a little more about this great organization.  Whenever possible, we carefully remove cabinets, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, doors, windows and other building material to donate to families in need.  We take pride in working with Mission: St. Louis, and our staff volunteers their time with the organization as well.

Here are their core values directly from their website:

Mission
Mission: St. Louis exists to transform the city of St. Louis through education, empowerment, and economic development by connecting churches with neighborhoods in need.

Education
Mission: St. Louis believes that education is the primary imperative in the empowerment and development of both individuals and communities. Education can take many forms, including connecting with local schools to achieve goals such as increased literacy, teaching job skills to adults, and providing families with information about proper health and wellness. Through education, they can work alongside individuals to inspire and develop indigenous leadership.

Empowerment
Mission: St. Louis seeks to empower people to grow and develop in all aspects of their lives. Empowerment means engaging people as equals, not as dependents of charity. To do this, we enter into dynamic interpersonal relationships based on mutual respect, trust, integrity, grace, and compassion. We make intentional efforts to create interdependent relationships that move beyond the traditional charity model of helper-helpee. Through empowerment, we are able to work together in achieving personal and community pride based on a regenerated sense of worth.

Economic Development
Transformation in city neighborhoods cannot occur without long-term economic development. To create healthy, economically viable neighborhoods, we must identify and understand the economic struggle and challenges of the community. By working alongside the people, businesses, and organizations of each neighborhood, relationships can be created to help foster permanent economic transformation.
